Newsletter Term 2 Week 2, 2025
Acknowledgement of Country
In the Spirit of Reconciliation, the St. Pius X school community recognises the ongoing role of the traditional custodians of this land, the Tubba-Gah peoples of the Wiradjuri nation. It is on their ancestral lands that we continue our learning journey together.
We extend that respect to Elders, past, present and emerging. Furthermore, all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples within our school community. Acknowledging their presence and spiritual connection to Country.
In the light of faith, we work towards a more accepting and humble school environment for all.

Council of Catholic School Parents Website
The Council of Catholic School Parents NSW/ACT is proud and delighted to provide you with the link to their new website. CCSP is committed to being recognised as a strong voice that advocates for families in our Catholic schools. As part of their current strategic plan, one of their aims was to 'create a new multilingual and easily accessible website, so all parents and carers are aware of the work of CCSP and are able to contact us through the website'. CCSP has created a website that can be translated into over 140 languages and offers easily accessible ways for parents and carers to stay in touch with the team. The site features interactive maps that link to information about CCSP members, dioceses, and numerous resources and links for families and schools.

Walk Safely to School Day
Friday, 16th May is Walk Safely to School Day. If you are able to, it would be a great opportunity to walk your child/ren to school on this day or even team up with families that live close by. This is also a great reminder to brush up on road safety rules with your child/ren.
Being active every day has many social, emotional, physical and mental health benefits. It also helps concentration and improves overall fitness.
Attendance
Students are expected to have above a 95% school attendance rate because days missed can add up to years lost. That’s why making sure your child comes to school every single day (unless genuinely sick) is important.
Maintaining a high school attendance rate, ideally above 95%, is crucial for a student’s academic success and overall development. Here are several reasons why consistent school attendance is important:
- Continuous Learning. Regular attendance ensures that students are consistently exposed to new information and lessons. This continuity is essential for effective learning, as concepts build upon each other over time.
- Development of Learning Skills. School attendance is not only about acquiring knowledge but also about developing essential learning skills. These skills, including critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration, are honed through active participation in the learning process.
- Establishment of Routine. Consistent attendance helps students establish a routine, promoting organisational skills and time management. These skills are transferable to various aspects of life and contribute to overall success. This is a vital life skill!

Catholic Schools Week
Catholic Schools Week in 2025 will be celebrated in Catholic schools throughout the Bathurst Diocese from Monday 12 May through to Sunday 18 May. This annual event is an opportunity for schools to promote the special ethos of Catholic schools and to highlight the great things that take place in these schools every day. The theme for this year’s celebrations is: Guided by Faith. Inspired by Hope, Committed to Learning.
In the words of our Executive Director of Schools, Christina Trimble,
“Catholic schools stand as a beacon in our society, for their contribution to the common good and to the nation’s social capital. They have helped to nurture a more just, tolerant and cohesive society”.
There are 33 Catholic schools in the Diocese of Bathurst that educate around 9000 students and most will celebrate Catholic Education Week in some way. Our school is planning a number of activities during the week including:

Sports News
Winter PSSA Sport
PSSA sport for Term Two starts Friday week (week two) and will conclude on Friday week nine.
We will be leaving school at 11 a.m and returning at around 1.00 p.m. PSSA sport involves Years Four, Five and Six.
Students will need hat, drink bottle, protective equipment (Union and soccer players) and a good sporting attitude.
We have teams represented in:
- Senior Girls League tag – Riverbank – Mrs Isbester
- Junior Girls Soccer - Jubilee - Mrs Garling
- Junior Boys Soccer – Lady Cutler – Mr Jones and Miss Atkins
- Senior Boys Rugby Union - Victoria Park - Mr Cant
- Senior Girls Soccer - Jubilee - Mrs Rose
- Senior Boys Soccer - Lady Cutler - Mrs Carr
Soccer players must use shin pads; Joggers only. If anyone has extra shin pads it would be wonderful if you could bring those to school for others to borrow.
Rugby union players must have a mouthguard and headgear for rugby, I do have some headgear to loan out for those that do not have any. If anyone has any spare we would be very appreciative if we could borrow it.
In the past few years St. Pius X has excelled in all areas of PSSA – one of the main areas is our sportsmanship. We would like this trend to continue so all children attending PSSA should remember they are representing St. Pius X and should uphold the school rules at all times.
Any misconduct will result in the student/s being suspended or banned from PSSA.
Diocesen Cross Country
Good luck to the 30 runners taking part in Cross Country in Coolah on Tuesday (6th May).
Remember FULL SPORTS UNIFORM (includes school hat). Thank you parents, we appreciate your support in this area.
Students will need to bring on the day: tracksuit, drink bottle, sunscreen, recess and lunch (canteen will be operating on the day). If parents would like to take something to sit on it is advised as we will be situated on an oval with no seating.
Registrations begin at 10.00am, walking the course starts at 10.45am and events will commence at 11.45am.
Mrs Hart and Miss Penman will be accompanying our students.
